E3 impressions: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

If there was one title shown at the 2011 E3 Expo that is sure to be an instant blockbuster hit, it's Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

A nod to a chilling real-life possibility of a military invasion on American soil, the E3 demonstration showed Navy SEALs boarding a Russian submarine and blowing it up in the middle of an intense naval battle near Battery Park (as in New York City's Battery Park). The underwater sequence as well as the close-quarters environment of the sub showed off the game's intense action with explosions and gunfire seemingly around every corner. New York isn't the only Western location players of Modern Warfare 3 will visit. A sequence based in London was also shown at the trade show.

The graphical stylings of Modern Warfare 3didn't come across as anything new compared to the previous games in the MWseries, but the quality of those graphics look to be far superior than they have in the past.  The chaos of militaristic firefights come across as more intense and even more authentic with the improved visuals and well-mixed audio.  If the demonstration is of any indication, players should be well satisfied with the game in these departments.
Unless major changes or off-the-wall reveals occur between E3 and the game's November 2011 launch, players can expect a very standard Modern Warfare gameplay experience.  While that might seem like there will be nothing new with the game, that's not entirely true.  New locations, enemies, and additions to weaponry, as well as tweaks to already established gameplay should make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the blockbuster title it's expected to be.
